During the occupation, more than one million landmines were buried by Armenia on the lands of Azerbaijan. This is unprecedented brutality against nature and humanity. The problem of landmines, an environmental terror, still persists. Even in the post-war period, Armenia did not stop its mining policy.
Since December 12, representatives of Azerbaijan's non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have been protesting near Shusha, close to the post of Russian peacekeepers, who are temporarily stationed in the area.
Protests, which have been continuing for eight days, aimed at inspecting the environmental conditions at the 'Gizilbulagh' gold deposit and the 'Damirli' copper-molybdenum deposit, monitoring various areas, organising cadastral property records, assessing potential risks and threats to the environment, as well as underground and surface water sources.
